statement

The title "Breaking Point" is a term used in breath-hold diving. It refers to the moment a person submits to their overwhelming urge to take a breath. The series Breaking Point began as a personal project to investigate my past fears of drowning and everything that particular fear represented. While uncovering my own, I photograph someone else moving past their physical and psychological limitations. This is an ongoing series in which I ask my subjects to pose for me in a bath. In essence, to overcome their own inhibitions by allowing someone to photograph them in the most private and intimate of places. What transpires is a highly personal transaction between the subject and artist. Both working through their fears.

I am a lens based artist who's work often examines commonalities between people and shared experiences. My themes tend to transcend gender, nationality and socio-economic status exploring what it is to be human. I ask the viewer to not only "see" my images but to question their own responses and reactions to them, analyzing their own perspective on what has been revealed.
