statement

Gordon Lee was born in 1954 in the then British colony of Hong Kong. After finishing high school in 1973, attended college in Canada. He switched his major in his second year from urban planning to fine arts after taking his first art history class. Lee decided to make his impact not as an architect or city planner but as a visual artist. After graduating from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec in 1978, he went on to Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan to pursue his master degree in painting. He is a painter and a mixed media artist who combines hyperrealism with abstraction to reflect on the human condition in the post-modern world. His work has been shown in many solo, group and juried exhibitions nationally and internationally from Ireland to Italy and from Hong Kong to New York. He won best of show at the 76th National Midyear Show at the Butler Institute of American Art. He is a recipient of the artist fellowship from Greater Columbus Art Council, Columbus, Ohio. Lee resides in Columbus and is a professor at Columbus College of Art & Design.
