statement

I make quiet paintings in a noisy world. My work is an intimate meditation on humble objects and the detritus of studio life. The process of methodically considering light and color is my way of understanding the world and my ever-evolving place in it. I aim to promote a reengagement with the mundane while creating a moment of reflection for the viewer.
Content is derived from formal choices; the constant search for visual harmony fuels my practice. The careful observation and depiction of concrete space, light, and air, through the plastic vehicle of oil paint, begins as a documentation of my own existence. Broader questions about absence and presence arise from the depicted 'empty' studio spaces and abandoned objects. Loss is a universal experience; I am interested in describing the aftermath, the residue, the imprint people leave behind. Even in silence, there is a tremendous amount of noise.
